Flinders Street East Town Guide According to Robbie

 

Brewery:

Downstairs - nice meals, good atmosphere for dinner and some nice music and a top pool table in the sports bar, also has a juke box with some rather upbeat new music on it which always makes for a good night

Upstairs a.k.a Level One - TOP CLUB, this place would have to be the most under rated venue in Townsville, Resident dj Andee gets top djs from around the world and Australia to play regular spots on saturday nights. Some names include Anne Savage, Steve Hill, Jimmy Z, Paul Holden, Miss Tracy and beXta. This club goes off when these names hit the decks. However, this club also pretty much goes off when they aren't here, theres hardly ever a dull beat with the music and the dance floor has top lighting and is great fun to get onto. Only real problem is nobody knows how good it is, if you have a group of friends try this place out, you will generally have a great night. Edit: Add NICK FKN SKITZ to that list, Friday night just gone, went with a group of about 20 people and everyone had a fucking blinder, even the ones that got in trouble for pouring drinks on the bouncers.

 

Bullwinkles a.k.a Bullys - Since the revamp this place looks awesome, walk in to a rather classy looking entrance then you open the door and the music hits you. Once inside you have the option of sitting down on rather comfortable couches or going to the bar for a beverage or of course, hitting the floor for a dance. Great club, good music, nice bar staff, fancy basins in the toilet and a well lighted dance floor. Great club to hit for lockout. Edit: Don't really like this place on saturday nights, bit overcrowded, but sundays and thursdays its the place to be.

 

Cri - Can you say pool tables? If you got the crave on for some pool or well priced drinks hit up the cri. Good music most of the time. Beer garden is a great area to have a few quiet drinks with mates and have a game of pool or two, music is sent outside so gets you in the mood for a dance later on. Once you hit the club inside its also pretty damn good, once lockout hits dj scotty plays some nice dance music for your getting your boogie on pleasure.

 

Mantaz - No. Edit: Hasn't been open for a while, good thing if you ask me, If anyone wants to lend me some hardcore cash i'll buy it and try make my own club. $4 basics all week!

 

Fuse - KILLER music, this club is abit up market, drinks are 5 bucks for basics but these guys make some nice ass cocktails, and the music is pretty quick, if you want a change of pace from the slower music, good lighting and you pretty much get to choose where you want to dance.

 

Molly Malones - Hit and miss, sometimes live bands are really good, but you can count on mollys to have some sports playing and nice drink prices and..... JUGS OF BUNDY!!!!! My drink of choice while in town :) Good place to go if you like live music and decent atmosphere, also have pokies, pretty much only place in town.

 

Flynns - Similar to mollys with a more laxed out atmosphere. Once again JUGS OF BUNDY!!!! The regular band in here is really good and can pretty much pull off any song you ask them to play. Inside area is generally pretty crowded so getting around is abit tough, but beer garden out the back is also generally pretty packed. Lot of uni students choose the flynns for the cheap drink prices, but a very good place to start, and generally finish the night if you like the live kinda new and old music.

 

Madcow - Pool Tables, Decent music, throws some oldies in there. This is probably the only club you can go to in townsville and here songs like Jitterbug and Jessie's Girl regularly. If your into the older pop music with the occasional playing of new stuff from rock bands this is the place for you. Nicely dressed female bar staff also add to the experience. Edit: Got to town at 2am last night, only place that was really doing anything. Great night, go the cow.

 

Exchange - Never really been, Live Bands all the time playing upstairs, rocky kinda music. Go there if thats your thing.

 

Bank - You either like the bank or you dont. I don't. I couldnt be fucked lining up for a club where you have to pay to get in and once your inside you spend half the night lining up to get a drink and once you finally do get a drink, your more then likely to spill half of it trying to walk through an over crowded club to try to get back to the group of people you came with. The music at the bank is great, and its a good club to go to if your purely want to dance. Just be sure to watch out for the over protective boyfriends that will want to fight you if you accidently glance at their partners who they let dance by themselves in the middle of the floor while they sit to the side looking like dickheads as they watch. Fuck you lamers go dance with your chicks. Edit: Still think this place licks balls

 

Coyote Ugly - Mechanical Bull w00t. Yes they have the dancers on the bar, No its not as good as it looks on the movie, Yes its extremely difficult to dj using a winamp playlist with a 5 second crossfade.....Ok so it isnt...Alot of people love this place, its ok if you want to have a $20 shot of Absynth. Edit: Went there last night, FUCKING WENT OFF, suprised the shit outta me. Probably just the company tho. PS dancing on the podiums is fun lol

 

Embassy - Rather tarnised reputation as alot of people seem to have misconceptions about the "medicinal" pills people may have taken before entering the club. But then again its probably true. Only been once to Embassy but generally has a cover charge and is purely dance music. Go there if your a raver. Edit: Clubbers Guide to 2006 was there on Friday night, heard good reviews. Most often has Ministry Of Sound tours visiting here.

 

Tip. - If your going home at like 3 or 5 and the taxi line is huge, ring up and book one for momo's or something on palmer street. It's a short walk and you get a taxi like 10-20 mins quicker.

Hi all, just redoing the space abit, all the photos from my blogs are ones ive deleted that just show you a few things that have happened around or are places around where I live. From magnetic island to full moon parties to some autographs I've scored from various djs who have come to a club up here. Gonna start blogging some more hope you can all enjoy!
